SD card for GH5

Marty111 wrote on 12/23/2019, 4:06 AM

Good morning everyone!
I just ordered a GH5 camera and I'm planning to maybe record with high bitrate templates with it : Anamorphic 6k, vlog and such, so I think the bitrate will be quite high. I heard about figures like 400mbit/s... I 'm not sure I will use such high figures, but I don't want to be limited in case I do.
So I was wondering, as I don't have any experience in the matter (first ever camera for me), do you know of an SD card that will work well, without problems ? It seems people are having some issues.
Thanks in advance.

Try this link. Used this site when I purchased my Canon 80D, and also referenced back after Sony FDR AX-53 purchase.

You can also try ProGrade Digital cards. Either from their site, or B&H and other sites. I use them for all my 80D, AX-53, and Four GoPro's (5+ Black, 6 Black, and two 7 Blacks). Just remember, you will need a card reader for any you buy.

ProGrade typically only sells/provides UHS-II cards, so make sure you get the applicable one for your cards. Plus, most card readers from what I have seen are USB powered (external), so make sure your computer has a "Free" USB 3 (o.k. stupid naming scheme crap: USB 3.2 Gen 1 which is the same as the old USB 3, as well as USB 3.1 Gen 1 - don't mind following/adhering to specs but these EggHeads for the USB-IF are nuts!). I purchased one of the Dual UHS-II SDXC readers, as any of their Micro SDXC cards is sold with the adapter. A quick look at some of the online stores I purchase from, shows that an "Internal" reader is getting harder to find, you know, because nobody these days needs any external 5.25" or 3.5" drive bays in their computer case! (Friggin' gamers!)

Oh, and your camera is a Dual Slot UHS-II camera.

Hi Chief24!
My computer only has usb 2.0 will it read the card ? At least slowly ?

Anyway the seller canceled the order for some reason. And these 400mbit/s and 6k are just some crazy stuff I probably won't be able to record / edit / keep on hard disk, without a lot of hassle. I'm thinking of buying a gh4 instead, I just hope the gh4 will be up to the task at creating some nice enough slow motion.
