SD Mpeg 2 versus AVI

Hi - I have editing avi for about 6 years now. Back in the day, editing mpeg was fraught with difficulty - usually around lip synch problems due to it' s lossy nature.

I have a friend asking me to edit some large SD mpeg 2 files and I am apprehensive. Am I just out of touch ? Has Mpeg 2 over come all those nasty problems ... can edit it just like an avi ? can I sleep at night ?

Got studio 10 plat

I have checked the forums and there is not a single post on the problems of lip synch ! I'm hopeful !

thanks Vincej

Every DVD in existence uses MPEG-2 video, by definition.

Vegas Movie Studio is as at least as good as any other consumer program for editing and rendering MPEG-2, presuming a moderately fast computer.

I once had to slip the audio by one frame to better sync with the actor's lips. It wasn't a show stopper.

Draw your own conclusions.

after an almost 3-year absence, good job remembering your password!!

You can sleep good at night.

I just finished a job where two cams were DV-AVI and the third was sd mpeg. I rendered the edits out to avi file and brought it into DVDAS to make the disc. No problems with lip sync.
