Search for missing media

This one is driving me nuts! Every time I open a project I get the 'Search for missing media' dialogue, looking for a file that I no longer use in the project and have deleted. I've clicked on the 'remove all unused media from project' icon, and also 'clean project media'. (Then save obviously) It still appears when I open the project though. Am I missing something obvious here? Vegas 9e 64 bit.

Never understood why Vegas wants to find a file that's been deleted, then the project saved without it. Anyone find this feature useful??

Do you have any nested projects that use this file? Removing unused media from the top project will not remove it from nested projects.

What about subclips?

Arthur, you may have deleted it from the timeline but it's still in Project Media. Go to the Project Media tab and delete it there. Then it will no longer ask for it.

Haven't got any nested projects with it in.

Ed, Isn't that what the 'remove all unused media from project' icon (little lightning bolt) does??

If the media is still in the project media pool after you have removed all unused media then the media MUST be in use! (e.g., it might be a "take" on an event that you are still using)

Switch to the details view in the project media and look at the Use Count. I'll bet it says 1 and not 0. Right-click the media and choose the option to select on the timeline. This will tell you where the media is still in use. You can also right-click and have Vegas delete from the media pool and the timeline. The bottom line is... that media is on the timeline somewhere for Vegas to think it's still in use.

With the project media set to 'details view' it shows the file as greyed out with the use count as '0'. But.....right clicking on it and selecting 'remove from project' worked. So bottom line is: The file was only viewable via the details view - didn't show at all in thumbnails view. And the 'remove all unused media' icon doesn't work! Anyone else experienced this?

Always worked for me. What kind of media was it?

You said you didn't have any nested projects, but what about subclips and/or takes?

Just a basic .m2t file. No sub clips or nested projects. Weird that it didn't show in the thumbnail view, but clearly there in detail view.

Just did a quick test. Created/saved a small project. Deleted a clip then resaved the project. Changed the name of the clip that I deleted, so that I got the 'missing file' dialogue when opening. The missing clip showed in project media both in the thumbnail and the detail view. Hit the lightening icon. File gone. So all working as should be. :-) Baffling.

'cept it didn't in my case - nothing there to 'go to'. I've noticed that I have another clip with the same name in the project...clip 154...although from a different folder/directory. Wondering if that's confused Vegas somehow.

This has cropped up again on another project - on 11 different files. Only other thing I can think of is that the original files were replaced by the new ones using 'add as takes'?

Just to clarify; The 'go to' script doesn't see these files at all. The little lightening bolt doesn't remove them. The only way to remove is to manually delete them. :-(
