Secondary monitor preview "Device unavailable"

Cheesehole wrote on 4/29/2005, 1:59 PM
It USED to work great... but now I can't get Vegas to detect my secondary display. It says "Device unavailable" in the Preview Device preferences - and "Did not detect multiple displays".

Tried restarting Vegas / Default All preferences / rebooting...

(I can't try re-installing or I'll lose the trial)

So this is a perfect example of why your system specs should be set in your forum prefs so we don't have to ask the innevitable: what video card, what drivers, how's it setup, and what monitors?

Good idea on the system specs... (done)

It's actually working great under Windows XP 64 bit, but not regular 32 bit Windows. It was working earlier... I think I upgraded my NVidia drivers to the latest official build. That might have triggered it.

Tried an earlier NVidia driver, re-installing .net 1.1 sp1, re-installing the V6 demo... somehow I've lost the secondary monitor preview. Anyone else have problems with it showing up as "Device Unavailable"?

is hardware accelleration on the display card set to full? if not, try that...

Yes it is definitely set to full. But that reminds me - I'm going to try re-applying DX 9c... hadn't thought of that.

UPDATE

Well we were on the right track. DX9 was fine but in DXDIAG "Direct Draw" was disabled. Just had to click the "Enable" button. This was a fresh install of Windows 2003 - I forgot that stuff is turned off by default.

All is working fine now! THX - Ben
