Personally I use Nero's DiscSpeed & in XP, DVDInfoPro (I'll have to check & see if my version still works) -- I don't use them that often... There's some nice stuff if you happen to have a Lite-on drive.

Normally I'll use Verbatim for anything that counts, & whatever brand is on sale locally for testing, relatively short term storage, & playing around - whenever I buy cheapies I try 3 or 4 discs from different places in the stack, & if there's any problems they're easy to return. So far [knock wood] I haven't had problems with my approach.

I use TY and Verbatim DVDs and never had a fail so I don't routinely verfy the burn. In the rare case when I verify a burn I use VSO Inspector.
