Select and split clips

WestsideSteve wrote on 7/24/2023, 4:54 AM

Vegas Pro 20 : I have a few clips and a 3 minute audio track to be incorporated into a 3 minute video. I would like to split trim and select portions from each of those clips. I have them stacked up in the project but what I split one it splits them all. How do I highlight and select each separate click when splitting? When each of the clips is trimmed down to its various sections I want to use I will drag them to the appropriate track but I need to trim them into pieces.

Thank you everyone.

Make sure that the event to be split (and only that event) is highlighted (the event will then have a yellow border). If no event is specifically highlighted, any event on other tracks at that point on the timeline will also be split.

There's a tutorial about splitting in he Vegas Hub under 'How-to Videos".

Thank you sir. I did a few YouTube searches at everything came up giving instructions how to link things together rather than highlight a specific one. Best wishes! WSS

Here's how Split works:

  • Nothing selected - it will split everything under the cursor.
  • Event(s) selected under the cursor - it will split only the selected events under the cursor
  • Event(s) selected but not under the cursor - nothing will be split
  • Events(s) selected, some under the cursor and some not under the cursor - only the ones under the cursor will be split
  • Everything selected - it will split everything under the cursor

Thanks! For some reason I couldn't figure out how to select an individual track or Yvette or clip. But that does make perfect sense and I certainly appreciate it.

@WestsideSteve, if you don't want the cursor to move, CTRL-Click the event(s) under the cursor you want selected. That will let you select only the ones you want.
