Select/Copy/Paste clip - audio not copied

vicmilt wrote on 5/10/2012, 10:45 AM
For years I have been copying and pasting clips in-between projects.
One project has all the original footage, the other is the edit project.

Select, copy, paste.

Now - in my new v11 latest upgrade, the audio is not coming over with the video clip. It's probably a button or preference that I've inadvertently clicked.

Any thoughts?

Vic,
You probably have the 'Ignore Event Grouping' button pressed and you likely clicked on the video portion to copy. That way audio will not be pasted into the new project.

Or take a look at Options/Preferences/Editing - you maybe have the third selection from top unchecked.

Both make sense, but neither worked.

Would some kind soul just open a project with typical pix/sound (pref from Canon 5d - cuz that might be the problem) - select and copy a small portion of a clip, and paste it into another project and see if the audio comes over with the video??

Vic,
Do you mean select a region of a clip and not the whole clip to copy/paste?

Just tried it with an HDV clip, selecting a section of a clip and audio went with it to the new project.

Don't have any DSLR clips to play with.. Will try with a clip from my Kodak Zi8...
Tom

edit: worked with that clip as well.

Is it when you have OFX effects in a project that cut and past only works with 32 bit Vegas? I can't remember. I know that on some projects I have to switch to the 32 bit version of Vegas depending upon the effects.

Hi Tom! (hope all is going well with ya)

I have done this technique thousands of times successfully.
It might be the 5D footage which appears linked when I grab it in the original project. Both slide as expected.

I anyone out there has a 5d would you try the experiment?
What's weird is that I've been cutting 5D for almost three years and this is one of my "standard" moves.
When I finish this job, I'll load some new stuff and also see if I can ressurect VP-10 and duplicate the issue.
Right now - crunching to deadlines.

Hi Vic,
Doing OK... thx. :-)

I only tried this only with raw clips - IOW, no FX of any kind applied.

I just tried with a Canon MKII clip and it worked fine.

Dang (but good - at least it's not Vegas)

Will try fresn in the am with an all new set of clips etc.
That's the only way to trace this kind of problem.

Thanks all - will report when I solve it.
