Select Link Cursor Problem

delphi wrote on 8/16/2003, 6:25 PM
Although I have both text and image selected as the link type and underline as the frame type, the select link pointer (hand) only activates when over the underline -- the text and image areas are not responding to pointer movements or clicks to select. It works, sort of, in preview but not on the burned DVDs.

What am I missing? Couldn't find anything in the docs or searching this group.

Any recommendations for a primer on standards and compatability issues in the DVD authoring arena?

Thanks

Al Wimberly

Al,

Are you watching the burned DVDs on your computer or on a "TV top" DVD player?

Both. The TV DVD player seems to work OK, although most of the time I have to insert the DVD two times to get past a "13:00" message -- IOW, it does not always auto-start on first insertion. Normal arrow and enter commands drive it OK once it is running.

The pointer hot spot misbehavior I asked about is on my computer's DVD (using CyberLink's PowerDVD V.5). It behaves the same on four other machines as well.

Interesting.

I'll have to try and see if I can recreate the issue on a DVD I'll burn later today.

Are you using DVD -r or +r (and are you using DVD RW or just DVD R?)

I'm using DVD+R disks, no RWs. What, in your view, and cost not a restriction, are the best blank DVDs to use for the widest distribution and best and most dependable quality? I'm not even sure whether +R or -R are best. I suspect that, as a general rule, those certified with the higest write speed are better -- 4x?

I'm still learning the *RULES* and I appreciate your help.

Actually...there is a pretty extensive website which speaks to your last set of questions a lot better than I can in this forum. Go to: www.dvdrhelp.com - there have a bunch of great information there.

But....+R seems to be better (so far) for distribution to folks for TV Top DVD players. -R for duplication (If I'm remembering what I read correctly). The write speed doesn't play that much into it as does not the brand of blank DVD (that much).

It will come down to hardware compatibility, mostly, and they have a compatability chart available too.

Personally...I'm burning mostly to RWs while I'm still in my testing mode. Don't want a bunch of expensive coasters running around. I'll leave that to the CDRs (at $0.10 a pop). When the price for DVDRs come down...then I won't mind playin around and making mistakes. But until then - DVD-RWs for me.
