Select program for DV capture - how to change

I connected my Panasonic DV camcorder via IEEE 1394 firewire and Windows XP presented me with one of those "Select the program to launch for this action" dialog boxes. I selected Sony MovieStudio since that is what I wanted. I also selected "Always use this program for this action".

Unfortunately, every time I change a tape in my camera, Windows launches a new instance of MovieStudio. I want to reverse my "Always use this program" choice, but extended searching through Windows help and the Internet have not given me a solution. Can anybody tell me how to stop Windows from running a new instance of MovieStudio with each tape change? How do you get back to the "Select the program" dialog box to uncheck the "Always use this program" box?

Help!!

No guarantees that this will work, but...

Plug the camera in, let it start Movie Studio, then stop the program.

Go Start->Control Panel->Scanners and Cameras. Hopefully the camera will have an icon here while it's connected.

Right-click the icon, click Properties and open the Events tab. You should then be able to select "Take No Action" so that plugging the camera in doesn't kick anything off. You should then be able to use the "Capture" button on Movie Studio to capture as and when you want.

I tried your suggestion, but unfortunately right-clicking my Panasonic DV icon did not display an events tab. After much searching on the web I found a registry tweak that fixed my problem.

I went to the following key and deleted the rererence to my camera:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\AutoplayHandlers\UserChosenExecuteHandlers

The next time I connected my camera, the dialog box displayed again. This time I selected "Take no action" and clicked "Always perform the selected action". Problem solved.

Glad you found a fix :) I was going by information in XP Help, but I wasn't able to hook my own camera up to try it first. According to the help, there is an "Events" tab somewhere... when I get home I'll try this myself just to satisfy my curiosity.

Well, I tried my own suggestion and you're right - no Events tab. According to the Help, the tab is only displayed if events are enabled for the device - but it doesn't say what enables it. Darn XP to heck. :)
