Selecting an Event

When double clicking on a event (clip) on the timeline I don't get the blue line above. The clip or event is shaded blue after double clicking. Should I be getting the blue line above?

The thin blue line at the top of the timeline shows sections that currently have prerenders available. It doesn't have any relation to selection.
