I'm sure there's a better answer, but I drag multiple files from Window's Explorer. You have to set up the rules for overlapping in the Options/Preferences/Edit tab. I believe it's called something like:

Automatically overlap multiple selected media when added (it's a checkbox).

Right below it you can set up the amount of time to spend fading between pictures.
