Semi OT: CD/DVD Media Review

Found this on Slashdot. Which media to use for archival.

Writer's recommendation: TY DVD+R

-The best discs in circulation tend to be Taiyo Yuden media, which you rarely can buy directly.
-If you cannot find any company selling Taiyo Yuden under the own brand, I suggest buying from the SuperMediaStore.com
-As I said earlier, DVD-R sucks for data preservation for three reasons: inferior error correction, inferior ‘wobble’ tracking, and the fact its data writing methods look like an un-needed halfway point between CD-R and DVD+R
-On a DVD+R, however, they came up with a much better method. Instead of changing the frequency of the wobble, or causing amplitude spikes in the wobble, they use complete phase changes.

As good as TY media is I wouldn't recommend it for archival storage, stick to MAM media, bit more expensive but it has been accelerated ageing tested.
For normal content distro TY is sure the way to go but not their dub stock, only the mastering media.

Never had any problems with Verbatim, CDR or DVDR.
Besides, who can fit a normal video-project into a DVD (or two)?
