So, TiVo started releasing their new TiVoToGo feature this week. It's a long awaited upgrade that lets users transfer recordings from their TiVo to computer for playback and for burning to DVD. They partnered with Sonic for the first program authorized for the DVD portion of the feature (as always, they have to at least make it look like they're protecting broadcaster's interests), and Sonic will be releasing the necessary MyDVD plug-in sometime this quarter.
In the meantime, though, some have found that they can use Nero Recode (or is it Nero Re-Encode?), TMPGEnc, and similar programs to get a regular MPEG2 out of the TiVo files. What I'm wondering is this:
Anyone here using TiVoToGo yet, and have you tried bringing a .TIVO file into DVDA? I'm itching to experiment with this thing, but they're doing a random, staggered upgrade of TiVo machines, and mine haven't been picked yet. Got the new TiVo Desktop software downloaded and installed, though, so I'm ready when they are.
Anyone feel like sending me a small .TIVO file so I can play?
EDIT: Ack. Nevermind about that last part. Forgot about the copy protection, which can be traced back to the original TiVo. Don't want anyone to get into trouble....
