Sending clip from timeline to Vegas Effects and back again

Hi, I am new to Vegas 19, having upgraded from Movie Studio 17, and now have the Vegas Post 365 package. Want I want to know is this, I can click on a clip in my timeline and tell it to open in Vegas Effects. So, say I then stabilize the video and now I want to send that stabilzed clip back to my timeline in Vegas and have it replace the unstabilized clip. Is it possible to have what you do in Effects reflect back to the original clip? The only thing I can find is to save it as a new clip and insert it in the timeline that way. I am using the AVCHD format for my original video. If I have to save it as a new version of the clip, what would be the best format. The output of the project will be as an MP4. If I save the clip as a MP4 then render the whole project as a MP4, will that clip be degraded by going thru the conversion process twice? I figure it would be best to just be able to apply the effect as added in Vegas Effects back to the original clip in the timeline. The stabilize effect in Vegas Pro does not seem as good as the one in Vegas Effects or am I just missing something there? Sorry for the amateur type question on this. I am good at editing but the ins and outs of codec and compression types still sorta elude me. Thanks, Dave

When you edit clip in Vegas Effects you create a Vegas Effects project. That project is then imported as new take and added to the original video event.

You could also export the video from Vegas Effects and import it manually to Vegas.

Thanks! I tried sending the clip again and editing it and it appeared to work. I also modified the clip several times in Vegas Effects and saved it and it updated on the timeline each time. I think, maybe, I didn't save the Effects project properly each time. Live and learn. One other question, if I have just done an effect in Effects and then I move down my Vegas timeline and find another clip I want to add effects to, when I click on open in Vegas Effects, it tries to open another instance of Effects and tells me only one can be open at a time. I tried removing my previous project from Effects but still get the same warning. Do I have to close Effects after each project is done? Not a big deal to do that, just curious if that is the proper workflow.

@David-Wigfield Hi, you don't have to remove previous events from the Vegas timeline or effects on them, Vegas Effects saves the changes you made as a Vegas Effects project,

Do what you want to on an event, close Vegas Effects when your done or if you get that msg, then when you go back to previous events that you've changed with Vegas Effects the project will reopen with all the effects you applied earlier,

Basically close it when your done or if you get that msg, you don't need to alter or delete anything from the timeline in Vegas, Vegas Effects will remember what you've done 👍

Yes, you need to save the Vegas Effects project and close it.

I noticed that sometimes the changes I made in Vegas Effects are not reflected in Vegas timeline. It happens usually when I edit the event for the very first time. It looks like the Vegas Effects project didn't save properly or Vegas cannot pick up the project file properly. Opening the same video event in Vegas Effects again usually fixes it.

Got it. Thank you! I just wanted to make sure that I hadn't missed something in the settings or options for both programs. Dave
