Senior moments with BD

VP12 timeline 1440x1080 (50i) ( Std HDV files) DVDA 5.2 (135)
Render to mainconcept .avc using 1440x1080i 25Mbps. Template shows par ratio 1.333. The avc file is not recognised by mediainfo but DVDA accepts the file but it previews in 4:3 not 16:9

Render to mainconcept mpeg2 .m2v. Mediainfo recognises file, likewise DVDA which also pulls in the matching .ac3 file. So this looks the way to go.

Should .avc files be used in DVDA and how would I change the 4:3 aspect to 16:9

You can certainly use AVC files as source files for a BluRay project in DVD Architect.

As I show you in my book, the easiest way to do this is to use the Vegas Render As/Sony AVC/AVCHD 1920x1080 60i (or 50i for PAL).

Although many people prefer to port the media to DVD Architect as separate audio and video streams. To do this, output the video using Main Concept MPEG2/BluRay 1920x1080 25 Mbps and the audio as Sony Wave64, either Stereo DVD or 5.1 Surround DVD. These two streams will combine on your DVD Architect project's timeline.

Thanks Steve,
I did find the sony avc/avchd codec/template but rejected it as the bit rate seemed low (8Mbps) for BD. Hence my choice of the mainconcept option. I'll try the sony version.

What I'm trying to avoid is DVDA accepting files & then re rendering. Hence my search for best renders to present to DVDA

Never had any problems preparing DVD's so had been hoping for the same with BD's

The least problematic file handling occurs in the SCS product workflow with Mpeg2 rendering. At standard rates this will give you the quality for Blu-ray as good as it gets.

Thanks videoT,
Editor (wife) has decided we need to move to BD. Burner arriving shortly as b'day pressie (76 hence senior moment). Of late we have switched from simple HDV to AVCHD (50P) /hdv mixed.
Both A1E's packed up recently so have been using canon hf G30 and a panasonic GH2. Have since dismantled the A1E's and made one good one which I find much easier to use than the GH2.
I'm just working out the workflow. To add to complications editing is usually carried out in Edius and a DVD prepared in dvda
Can create a BD iso , mount it on a virtual drive and it works. I guess the test will be when the burner arrives but there is hope.

Using a workflow of Edius as the NLE and SCS DVDAPro 5.0b as the authorware for Blu-ray title:

Re: Making a BluRay from Edius 6 - posted in Sep 2013 in an Edius forum:
You can use MPEG2HD elementary stream export or if you have an i7 with quicksync you can export with the h264 Bluray preset with Intel hardware. Both Sony DVD Architect and Encore will use these files.
I mainly use DVDArchitect and for that it is just a matter of changing properties and exchanging the video files. I use this all the time and just author once.

Just an update.
From a 1440x1080 50i timeline render out a GV HQ.avi, Pass this through TMPEG to produce .m2V & .ac3 files (about 40 minutes per hour). Make BD in DVDA. Files accepted and final render to .iso is fairly quick (56min for a 2hr timeline).
Repeat the process but this time use Edius to make a mp4 file with embedded audio. No problems working in DVDA but the final render to build the .iso takes around 6 hours.
Both BD's take the same time to burn and there appears to be no difference in the final viewing quality so I guess my route through can be considered sorted.
Your guidance is much appreciated, thanks.
Geoff
