Sepia Fx - surely something better?

Does anyone know how to create a sepia effect like what is found in Movie Maker? The Vegas Sepia Fx is awful. I've tried using Wax with the DirectX Movie Maker plugin but it crashes too often to be useful. The DirectX settings for the Movie Maker Sepia plugin are: Red = 0.10, Magenta = 0.09, Yellow = 0.25, and contrast = 1.0. (I'm not sure what these settings are)

The sepia FX in Vegas is kinda useless.

Better methods:
Use the color corrector filter. Drag the color wheels towards orange. Pick three slightly different colors, not the same color. That tends to look better.

Start with the right wheel and then work down. (You don't have to do this.)

OR

Use the color curves filter.
You can look at the area below the graph to see what things look like. Try to color that gradient a sepia tone.

Try Film Effects...you can set a tint color & level and convert to greyscale. Be sure to turn all particles "off".

Drop a generated gradient over it that is more in the range you want. Apply curves to it if you need to do more with it.

try this one guys, Gradient map. Use the Sunset preset then customize it. From left to right, it should be: transparent, darker color, medium, then white. This is awesome. Use it all the time for my promos.

The gradient map is a great filter. However, in rare cases you'll get banding from it.
Try it out on any gradient generator.
That's something to watch out for.

2- As an alternative to gradient map, you can also use the secondary color corrector.

as a matter of fact glenn, i did notice some banding, but that was because i was using red that was over saturated. toned it down and it worked out in the end.

thanks for the tip tho, helps alot.
