sequencing + hiccups

I wish Vegas had a built-in sequencer. I'm testing out
different packages, and like the simplicity of Vegas Pro,
but I do all-electronic music and need a sequencer
capability. I hear that Cakewalk does everything -
multitrack recording plus sequencing - but it looks pretty
complicated.

If I don't have a hardware sequencer, which I don't, what
are my options? Can I have Vegas Pro and a software
sequencer loaded at the same time (Windows machine running
Win98, 128MB PC100 RAM, PIII 500 MhZ Coppermine chip). I'm
afraid I might get stuttering.

Also, is there a tech note for troubleshooting hiccups and
stuttering? While playing around with Vegas, I had some
hiccups, and those are unacceptable. But my machine is
reasonably powerful and I've got all powersave BIOS stuff
shut off. Must be a configuration problem.

Thanks.

According to Encarta Enciclopedia (http://encarta.msn.com), hiccups
are "involuntary contractions of the diaphragm occurring with
contractions of the larynx and closure of the glottis, halting the
inflow of air. Mild cases generally occur spontaneously, lasting only
a few minutes, and are commonly caused by minor stomach upsets while
trying to do multitrack recording with Vegas."

As for sssssssss-tut-tut-tuttering, I'll get baba-back to you...

You shouldn't believe everything Microsoft says. Next thing they'll
be remedying the flu with Microsoft VirusGuard.
