Serious Video FX problem with large number of events

This is very distressing! Spent almost 12 hours applying various filter adjustments only to have Vegas Video totally mess them up. This may happen only with a very large number of events and complex application of filters.

Details:

Project apx 36 minutes in length
Events apx 240
Tracks one video, 6 audio each with volume envelope

synopses:

Use split event breaking single source file into scenes, some as small as a few seconds. Apply various video FX filters by dragging to event on timeline. Select only single event, play using loop playback. Adjust video FX filters as needed, save project, move on to next event, repeat these steps.

Every 5-6 minutes reset loop playback area to encompass project to finished point on timeline to confirm everything is OK. Everything fine, exactly as I want it. Have a series of project files saved as A-B-C, etc..

Move further down the timeline skipping some events. Apply video FX filters to later part of timeline as before. Everything looks fine. Return to start of project ALL THE EVENTS early on the timeline that were adjusted exactly as I wanted them are now totally distored!

Clicking on the Event FX button on the timeline of a early event I now see multiple instances of filters I applied. I only apply ONE instance of levels or color curve, etc., now early on the timeline there may be two or three instances of each, which doubles or triples the filter effect. Some events don't have multiple instances yet there is still distortion very noticeable. Thinking somehow I did, I re adjust again. Everything seems fine again for the eary events. I return to late on the timeline and the last events I worked on way near the end of the timeline are now distored, but the early events are still OK.

I'm stuck in a vicious cycle. I never had this kind of a problem with smaller projects. What's happening, and how to get correct it?

Thanks for responding, I resolved it by redoing this time not skipping around on the timeline to make adjustment and just plowing through beginning to end.

One thing I didn't mention, perhaps you can clear up. I tend to not use the presets for the video FX filters preferring to drag as needed to some event on the timeline and tweaking. Every once in awhile when I drag and let go it never changes to the a square with a plus inside, it remains a line through a circle, then just disapears once I let go of the mouse. So I'm thinking it didn't take, so I drag again. Is it possible this failed dragging of a filter may/could be deposited on the timeline outside the range currently visible on the timeline? That would at least explain how some events got multiple filters of the same type.

Couple questions:

1. Should it matter if you skip around on events on large projects applying filters?

2. Is there a limit to how many points you can set on volume events in audio tracks? I made another post, nobody replied to where I was getting "An error occurred while starting playback. Unable to mix audio the operation timed out. This happened on the same project this thread is about. Don't think it is a corrupt file since it appears at random points on the timeline but only after well into the project, not the first fifteen minutes.
