Set specifc time for event

This must be easy, but I just can't figure it out. I want to set the length of a video event to a specific number of seconds. The only thing I have been able to do is move the end to change the length of the event and look in the lower right corner of the application window to see the length of the event. Then move the end again... until I finally hit the right length. It seems like there should be someplace I can just enter a number of seconds to size the event. Is that possible?
I have Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum Production Suite 11, build 247.

Not quite as easily as you'd like, i'm afraid. If you double-click on the event it will be selected as a loop region. Just below the right corner of the timeline you'll see three timecode values: start, end, and duration, respectively. Double-click the duration and type in the length you want. The loop region will change to reflect this. Then you can drag the end of the event to match the end of the region and it will "snap" to that point.

Chienworks, thanks for the tip. You are right, that is kind of cumbersome, but easier than the way I was trying to do it!

Now I have a follow on question. Once I enter the new selection length and the selection bar goes to that length, how can I grab onto the end of the video event and move the end to snap to the selection? When I try, it pulls the following event over to increase the fade length instead of shortening the first event to the selection length. The only way I have found to do it is to move the rest of the events (with ripple) to the right, eliminating the overlap, so I can grab the end of the first event. Then I have to pull the other events to the left to recreate the fade overlap.

You're pulling on the wrong thing. You need to pull on the end of the current event, which should be the *end* of the transition with the next event. It seems to me you must be pulling on the beginning of the transition, which is the beginning of the next event.

Oh my! You are exactly right. I have been trying to drag the wrong place. It is so obvious now that you have pointed it out. Thank you very much!!!
