Setting Transition Lengths

I know how to import a lot of events into the timeline at one time and have them automatically posess a specfic transition and length of transition (the easiest way to make photo montages!!)... but how can I drag events into each other on the timeline and have the transistion stop at a certain length?

For example... two events are side by side on the timeline, not touching... I want them to have a one second dissolve between them. So, I drag one event into the other and make a one second transition. But, I have to do this carefully, because sometimes it's 28 frames, or one second and four frames, etc.

When I drag one event into the other, is there a way to have the drag stop at an 'indent' so to speak? So I'm left with a one second dissolve?

I know, I'm lazy... and maybe a perfectionist, but if a video is worth doing, it's worth doing correctly... even if the viewer can't tell.

Thanks!

I set my grid for the LENGTH of the transition. Then when you slide the video will snap to the grid. If you want a second, make a one second grid.

Place timeline cursor near the cut. Mouse wheel to zoom in, drag the event on the right over to the left and the pop up display shows the amount of frames being overlapped for a transition. Use Ripple to keep everything downline intact.
