Setting Up Folders for Vegas and Capture

I am trying to figure out how to set up file folders for Sony Vegas Studio Platinum 9.0and Sony Video Capture 6.0. I know to use my external drive. Is there a good way to organize files for the best logical use? How do I set them up and make sure Vegas/Capture use them?

I am converting video tape to CD. After I load them into my computer, I also want to make a copy of them to DVD or CD (raw copy-- before editing). I want to do this to conserve disk space. Is there a good way to do that?

Thanks!

Create a folder for each project. In VidCap go to Options / Disk management, add the folder you've created to the list, and make sure that's the only one checked.

Most capture formats use about 13GB/hour. How large is your external drive? Even a tiny (by today's standards) 500GB drive will easily hold 35 hours of captures. A 700MB CD only holds about 3 minutes. I wouldn't bother with CDs at all. A 4.7GB DVD can hold about 20 minutes, but it would be a pain to write them all and use them afterwards. Buy more external hard drives if you need the extra space. They're much faster and easier to use, and possibly more reliable too.
