SF selling our personal info?

I recently upgraded to Vegas 4.0, which is a great bit of software. My mom bought it for me as a gift, so everything was in her name, but my address. Now, I keep getting junk mail in her name but my address. I'm not talking about spam in my email, I am talking about credit card offers and insurance company offers in my U.S. mailbox. I've never received anything with my mom's name on it before, and find it strange that this all started within a month of having Vegas 4 delivered that way.

If this is true... I find it hard to believe, though. Did you order it directly from SF?

When you registered, did you agree to get offers from SoFo AND it's "partners"?
I think there was a place where you could select getting offers from SoFo only.
Also, I think there is an address you can e-mail to be removed from that list.

I ordered online from SF, and had them mail the CD to my home.

When I registered I did not get the offers, and I registered without sending my personal information. The only way they could have gotten it was when I gave the address to mail the CD to.

The online purchase has optional shite from some outfit called BizRate - maybe the is an option on other order methods too. Sure she didn't tick a 'Yes, please send me promo material and special offers' type box ? It's not all audio-related.

Today I got my catalogs (I get two now) from SF. Mine, and the one to my mother. There is a slight variation in the information between the two (highway vs road in the address). The information on the catalog to my mom was identical to the way it was on the mailbox junk. There is little doubt the junk came from SF peddling my information.

I am careful to not check permissions that allow my information to be shared. This is disappointing.
