SFK files contain waveform peaks to draw the waveforms in Sound Forge. Sound Forge creates an SFK when you open a file, if it doesn't already exist. It saves time to keep the SFK files if you will be editing a particular file repeatedly. Otherwise the waveforms have to be recalculated each time you open the file. There is a check-box option in options/preferences/general: to Delete temporary files on close, if you don't want the SFK files lying around.
