I don't use HDV yet, but I do know that Vegas wants to write the SFK files in the same directory as the video files. Are you loading the HDV files from a disk or directory that vegas can write to?

Yet another thread about hdv clip errors (though you don't know it yet).

Turn off your virus protection and capture your footage again and see if that helps.

Are you using Vegas's capture or HDVSplit?

We had this very often with m2ts and V7. It was fixed in V8. If you are working with M2t Vegas 8 is a must have

Thanks guys- good tips!

I didn't know that virus protection would be a buggaboo (not sure why it would be though)

Also, I always have the sfk's in the same folder as the clips themselves.

Thanks for the tip re/ v8, I'll be sure to update real soon!
Cheers

Virus protection is only bad while you are capturing HDV. I leave it on most of the time and only turn it off during captures (turning it back on immediately after). You really don't want to be checking your captured video for viruses as it's capturing. Some people never run virus protection while they are editing because of the slight slow down of the system. I don't go that far myself.

The worst virus checker is Norton. It slows your computer down at least 20% all the time. Frankly, it really sucks.

Free ones like AVG or AVAST are much better. I have done numerous tests with both AVG and AVAST and can see no noticable slowdown when I am editing.

Capturing video is another story though. I typically get at least one Vegas-crashing error per tape when the virus protection is runnind during the capture. Sometimes I'll bet two or three. Other times none at all, but on average it's about one error per tape.

Since I started turning off the virus protection during captures I have captured about ten tapes without a single error. Maybe it is just some weird statistical anomaly, but it has been enough to convince me. When Vegas crashes on an HDV clip, it is not the editor, it is the capturing utility.

Also, you may want to try HDVSplit. I use HDVSplit with the video previewing function and my virus protection turned off and get nice error free captures. Some people have better luck with Vegas's capture though. My suggestion is to try both and see which one works better on your particular system.
