Shadow on a 3D track???

I can't understand why you can't have shadows and glows on a 3D track???

All you have to do is add a parent track and then add the shadow or glow to the Parent Motion. Just add a track above your 3D track. Then press the Make Compositing Child button (down arrow in track header). Finally open the Parent Motion dialog (the button all the way on the left under the min/max button of the parent track) and select shadow and glow from there.
