Vegas has been able to import simple SWF files since V4, but I mean SIMPLE.

Vegas can't author or output SWF files. It's not that kind of program.

Vegas also can't import or export FLV files (FLV is the extension for flash video files, requiring a flash encoder, etc, etc)

I'm told that the newest versions of flash and the flash player can use h.264 encoded files. Vegas can do that but I've never tried it so I don't know the details.

Thanks.
I need to make a video of an apartment complex, but the website it goes on will only accept the .swf extension. Is there some program available which will convert a simple vegas file to .swf for uploading?

ON2's Flix Pro would be my first choice. It'll take most any video file as input and convert to SWF or FLV.

Just be careful - SWF files have a frame limit of 10000 (I believe). If the video is longer, it would need to be FLV, but it can be called by an SWF player file, that can also be output by Flix Pro.

To save a step, you can FrameServe directly from the Vegas timeline to FlixPro.

I have Flash swf files on my website. http://wacru.wa-music.com.

Here's the workflow I've evolved after much trial, error, and tips from this forum. I encode to WMV format, import the file into Flash CS3, and re-encode using the On2 codec.

Seems like it shouldn't look good, encoding twice, or that AVI or MOV or mp4 or AVC should be a better intermediate, but WMV seems to be the best. I've also tried third party encoders, Any Video Converter is OK, but the flv it generates is not as sharp as the Flash encoder.

It would be great if Vegas could go directly to flv, but I'm not holding my breath.

Many thanks. I'll give it a go.

On2 also does a good job converting mpg2 to flv - the audio stays in very tight sync, which can be a problem with some other formats. The only negative to Flix is On2's utterly stupid authorization procedures.

Your install count is ONE. After that you need to fax them a copy of your receipt and jump through various other flaming hoops. Those guys had my blood boiling when I bought my new quadcore.

If it happens again I'll just send them a terse email and lay my money down with Sorenson.
