As promised, here is one interpretation of the HLG sample you provided in another thread.
- I chose 8 bit x264 3840x2160 p50 render output in Voukoder for maximum playability across systems and streaming platforms, as well as direct downloads. This "should" play smoothly without stutters or artifacts on about 85% of Windows systems, according to some AWS statistics.
- I also tried a 10 bit x264 version, better matching your decoded source format, but I am unable to evaluate playback on my modest i5 system. Perhaps you will wish to test that.
- I am unable to reproduce your observation of artifacts in frame-by-frame examination of any of my test render source, and only experienced playback artifacts on the 10 bit version I mentioned above.
- For your convenience and practice, I have zipped the VP20 Project and render, and you may download it here:
- If you would like to test the project in VP20 or VP21, I suggest opening a project copy, since you won't be able to revert.
-
- Despite what others have said, I am unable to find any evidence that any version of Vegas now supports or reads DolbyVision(c) Metadata. For that reason, I have done only basic grading in a 10 bit project, ignoring the telltale blue/yellow bias that appears near the end of your clip.
- Hope this helps; you are a bright learner, and I can promise you that no one, especially me, got this stuff overnight.
- As for me, my contributions to the forum will be limited going forward; I don't own the newest versions of Vegas, and I find the background noise here to be deafening, in recent experience.
