Shortened file

I have a file that is about 30 minutes long. If I double click on it, Media Player will open and play the entire file. However, if I import the file into Vegas and drop it on the timeline it is less than a second long. How do I correct this?

Before offering any help, folks around here are going to want to know as much info about the file as you can give them. (File type, properties, etc.)
