Delete anything on the timeline in that 5 minutes.

It's also possible that the project really does end where you want it to, but when you preview Vegas keeps playing empty space for a while. Click the "move to end of project" button that looks like >| to place the cursor at the end. This will show you where Vegas considers the end of the project to be.
