shotgun mic?

Guys,
can anyone point me to a really nice low cost shotgun mic (1/8" jack) for our fx1. I'm getting a nice audio tech for our z1u with xlr but I'd like our fx1 to be able to get a "descent" shotgun w/o 100000000
dollars.

I reallize the shortcomings of the 1/8 but the onboard mics on these sonys SUCK!

My little pany dv953 has a WAY better microphone system than our fx1.

Actually the dv953 EXCEPT for low light is a pretty nice little hand piece but.

Anyhow if anyone can point me to a approx 75.00 job that does a good job for it's cost I would appreciate it.

I don't own a FX1 but I have owned http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=search&A=search&Q=&shs=beachtek&ci=0Beachtek[/link]
adapters in the past and have been very happy.

If you can share your AT shotgun you should be happy with the adapter and opens the door
to other mics..

The http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/363083-REG/Rode_VM_VideoMic_Camera_Mounted.htmlVideoMic[/link] has high comments including Spot/DSE's http://www.sundancemediagroup.com/articles/Rode_VideoMic.htmreview[/link] a few years back. (Note the B SIDE comment)

id stay away from teh Rode video mic (mono origianl release) as it still has many noise issues (ie oversensitivity to handling noise) the stereo mic is a lil cleaner in that regard

teh Sennheiser MK300 is a great lil unit, but u might need to cut the jack and "monofy" it to get the one hcnanel fed into the cams stereo input

i second the beachtek option, but be aware that the batteries and build will make ur cam a lil chunkier

for shotguns, i use a K6 with an ME64 and ME66 capsule, but rode NTG1 and NTG2 (same but with different power options) are also a good option with a clean flat response

The new stereo Rode Videomic is probably what you want. Be aware that the way it mounts is akward with the FX1's top mounted video screen though.

Don't need to mount a mic on the cold shoe. The FX1 still has the mounting holes that you need to mount a Rode shotgun. See this thread:

Complete with enough pictures, if not drop me an email. The pics are from a Z1 but I'm 99% certain this will work with the FX1 so long as the mic has the right electrical connections.

That's a regular Rode mic, not the Videomic. Cool link though.

Bob, the FX1 from memory doesnt have the screwholes whch the Z1 has.. unless theyve changed the design.. then again i was messing with these at pre launch (yup almost 4 yrs now.. lol) so i cant be certain

We sold off our FX1 ages ago but I'm 99% certain it has the same screw holes on the side of the control panel as the Z1. What might be missing is the small adaptor / spacer plate that goes between the panel housing and the mic holder. However if you look at the pictures in my DVInfo post you'll see that by using the spacers that come with the Rode shockmount you should be fine. We've had the Z1 with that mod running for a few months now and it's all rock solid, more than I can say for Sony mic holder.
