Should I Bother Upgrading

I am currently using VMS 4.0a (Build 48) and DVD AS 2.0 (Build 22) and I have no complaints about either one. Is it worth it for me to upgrade either the VMS or DVD AS? At this time, I can't justify purchasing an upgraded version but will I even see a difference in the free version upgrades or should I just stay with what I have?

You should always apply the free updates. You won't get any new features, but they do provide a lot of bug fixes.

There are a few features in the newer versions that add an awful lot to the editing experience. You'll get 4 audio and 4 video tracks instead of 3. Compositing and masking are wonderfully creative tools. The newer versions also have keyframing for smooth transitions of effects instead of being limited to just Begin & End. Those are some of the biggies off the top of my head.

Oh, and DVDAS 3 or 4 actually work and produce usable DVDs! There's a reason to upgrade right there.

I second all that. Keyframing improvements may
be the most dramatic difference.

I upgraded from VMS to Platinum last year,
and I have no regrets.

Thanks for the info. I'm sure I will go ahead and install the updates. I am just s little hesitant to change anything when I have a project due for fear that someting could go wrong.

I am a little curious about the comment concerning DVDAS 3 or 4 finally allowing for the creation of useable DVD's. Maybe I have just been lucky, but I have never had a problem with crreating DVDs that I could use.

As a whole, I love VMS and DVD Architech Studio. I am certain that both programs can be used to do a lot more than I have had time to figure out. I seem to learn somethng new everytime I use it.

It's not my case. I've been always more than happy with DVDAS 2 but I'm really upset with the non-usable DVD produced by DVDAS 3 and it seems that Sony can't do anything. They suggested me to upgrade to version 4. This is not a great suggestion becasue I purchased version 3 less than a week ago.

But, just in case... what's the difference between DVDAS 3 and 4?

I went ahead and upgraded to Platinum. I have not done too much experimenting with DVDAS 4 yet but I did just burn a DVD that had worked fine with DVDAS 2 but now the copy made with 4 has audio but no video.
