Shuffle Event and Track Motion K/Fs to go . . .?

[ Been busy this morning . . ]

I use Shuffle Event a lot. It is terrific! Once I got the hang of it, it is one my major “tools” when I’m digging out an idea on the t/l. It’s slippy and sexy . . it just works, as it should. I can set up Track motion KFs to do stuff. I don’t have to go to P/C to do something similar. And yes, I know there is a logical difference to Track Motion and P/C and why they are separate functions. That being said, I really do find the “block” of not having the track k/fs “move” with the Event in “Shuffle Event” silly. No, it’s worse than just being silly. It demands I either squint at the “diamonds” on the Track Motion t/l and move them, OR within the track motion window OR – IMHO – worse, dictate a set of K/S within yet another window in P/C. This acts like a “brake” on my flow of ideas. I can’t believe others haven’t thought this, maybe it has been aired before - dunno.

I’ve had a “side-bar” conversation with one of colleagues on this, you know who you are ;-) , and I finally went away and had to agree . .but on reflection, I couldn’t just leave it. It’s one thing putting my hands up to something that we have to“live” with. It’s another thing to say, no, this isn’t good enough . . . so, here’s my monumental solution:

Why not have another line within the “Right-CLICK” drop down menu which allows me to Shuffle Event WITH K/Fs or WITHOUT K/Fs. Simple! Done and dusted . . . .

Anybody like it? Anybody not wanting to “break-it” [ . . .as in, “If it aint broke don’t fix it!” ]

Grazie

Can't imagine many benefits to this, that's why there are takes, and that's part of the magic of Vegas, keyframes that are EVENT based rather than track based only. If you want to shuffle leaving keyframes intact, then insert your FX at the track level, not at the event level. Then when you shuffle, keyframes will stay in time, and will affect whatever events are above it.
It's never been an issue, but I'll wager you've not spent much time with many of the other tools, because this is how EVERY application used to work, keyframes were timeline based only, so if you missed an edit by one frame, you had to go back and change them all in the 'old' days.
Nope, I'd rather have them event capable, and if there was a choice inserted in there now, you can bet your a$$ that there would be a LOT of complaints, partially predicted on the fact that this has never been brought up. If it were a problem, by now it would have been aired since this is the way Vegas has worked since day 1.

Okay . . thanks SPOT . .

I've learnt to understand your knowledge of the history and the general evolution of media packages. In this I hold you in high esteem. No BS here - honest!

. . .but . .but . . but . . why then when I MOVE an event with T/M K/Fs underneath it, these same T/M K/Fs move with it? All I'm suggesting is that when I use SHUFFLE Event, that is take hold of the Event with a Right CLick, and want that T/M effect to move with it - the K/Fs don't move with it? Please explain the logic of that?

SPOT could you please explain further your comment, "Can't imagine many benefits to this, that's why there are takes, . . ." sooooo.... how do Takes, take into account what I'm wanting to do?

Honest, I do realise the need to keep T/M K/Fs locked to their time postion on the T/L . . yes, this I understand as a real neccessity . . I'd be all over the place if it wasn't there. However, I find the placing of T/M K/Fs so so easy, I really appreciate it. It's just the Move Event - K/Fs move, as opposed to SHuffle Event K/Fs don't! Shuffle allows me to drop that Event betwixt to other Events -done! Move Event just drops it "over" another 2 events with a crossfade . . . see my point? Maybe you don't . .dunno . .

As to why I would want this to happen, I'm always looking for more sexy and easy ways of making our fab NLE even more responsive to my needs. When working on the T/L I use this time to get a very quick and "Suck it N See!" result/approach . . . throwing in some T/M K/Fs is great! Now wanting to Shuffle this Event somewhere else would be even better . . That's why when I Move Event the options are there, but aren't avaialabel when I Shuffle Event just appears, to my lowly appraciation of NLE activity, that I go . . " w h y ? "

Oh yes! You would win the wager - everytime! I'm not worthy. . . well I am . .I'm learning loads . .

Best regards,

Grazie
