Shuffle through the timeline at a regular pace?

Hello. I'm using SV13 and I need to be able to slowly shuffle through the timeline to know where the certain beats of music are for me to edit in effects, or to place lyrics that are synced perfectly with the song. The soundwaves aren't always enough because sometimes my audio is too complex to decypher with soundwaves.

However, in Sony Vegas this is nearly impossible because whenever I try to shuffle through the timeline, The audio responds do how fast im going and the output is audio that is too high pitched to make sense of. Is there a way to "lock" the timeline cursor so it moves at the same speed as it would if i was just playing the video? I tried to make this make sense, I hope someone has a solution!

At the left bottom of the timeline window area there is a "Rate" slider with a small triangle below (see the mouse pointer in the screenshot).

Use this triangle to define your "Normal Rate".

Then click onto your audio event and press +/ - (on keyboard) to adjust the pitch (you can alter the pitch while playback).

For example, if you have set the normal playback rate to 2.0 (doubled speed) and set the pitch to -12, you should get doubled playback speed while it sounds (almost) quite fine. Or vice versa set the normal playback rate to 0.5 and set the pitch to +12.
You could then further fine-tune the pitch quality by right-clicking the audio, selecting "Properties" and testing different stretch types and attributes.
