I've had a few problems actually. The first thing you need to do is get the latest drivers, think it came out aug 26th. It has presets for vegas, but I changed mine.
One thing that drove me nuts was using the jog wheel to go forward or back 1 frame at a time. For some reason it was set in default vegas 5 to go forward or back only 1 frame- not at a time, but ever. So I couldn't ever go more than 1 frame forward regardless of how many times I move the wheel. Either this is a bug or the the most unbelievable act of idiocy in history. So I changed my shuttle quite a lot and am still figuring out what works best for me. I like to have undo/redo on the 2 side buttons opposite the jog wheel. I've also added split, copy, paste, and cut to the 5 buttons 2nd to the top. Play around with it and see what works for you.
Occassionally I still get things working funcky and not as it's programmed to do. Extremely annoying. Happened the other day when I opened Photoshop.
Hope this helps.

Best thing to do is look at the Vegas 4 keyboard shortcuts. Which ones do you use most often? Program those for the Shuttle. Which "finger movement" is easiest for you? Program the most used shortcuts to those buttons that have the easiest movement for you.
Example, my SPLIT shortcut is programmed for my thumb on my ShuttleXpress.
Eventually, your movements will become quite automatic and you'll be flying through your edits.

Vegas 4 user here also and I'm using the driver dated BEFORE the 26th with no problems.
