Signal flow questions re bus/assignFX pan

I know that track sends to busses and assignable FX (AFX) are pre-track-pan in V5/V6. But before putting a bunch of pan FX into my busses and AFX, I'd like to confirm where the built-in bus and AFX pans are sitting in the signal flow. As I understand it, you only need to add a pan FX if you want the input going into another (following) FX to be panned (such as into a reverb).

The "Audio signal flow" diagram (pg 37 in V6 manual) does not show the built-in pan functions on busses or AFX.

Busses: Is the bus panner post everything, or does it move with the "bus volume" to the pre-FX or post-FX position in the flow? It's not shown on the diagram.

AFX: Where does the AFX panner sit in the flow? It's not shown on the diagram. (There is no pre- or post- option on AFX)

Can anybody clarify these missing pan signal flow details?

The diagram is wrong in version 5, last time I looked. It used to be correct, so maybe they just never updated it, or they don't know what they are doing, or they just don't care.

The audio signal flow diagrams are identical in V5 and V6 manuals, and also in V5 and V6 online help (search for "signal flow diagram").

By the way, the signal flow diagram does not show pan on the master bus either. Is it pre- or post-FX?
