Silent Movie Caption Templates?

ericsport wrote on 10/1/2024, 5:09 PM

Hi, I recently used a brand new camcorder which I attached an external mic to but neglected to switch it on, so TRAGICALLY no audio was recorded.

My solution is to convert this video into a SILENT MOVIE, going to add vintage music and OLD FASHIONED SILENT MOVIE captions for some of the dialogue (ala charlie chaplin). Does Vegas have any templates for such captions? Or a way of reproducing them?

Also this video has a time stamp on it, is there a good way to remove it? sigh

Cheers

Not turning the external mic on is very, very annoying - I've done that more than a few times myself.

Re silent movie fonts, the starting point would be to look through the fonts available in Vegas Pro's Tittes and Text to see if anything matches the font style that you are looking for. Otherwise, do an online search for 'free silent movie fonts'. 1001fonts.com is a good resource for fonts - https://www.1001fonts.com/movie+silent-movie-fonts.html . Downloaded fonts can then be installed in Windows fonts folder (C:\Windows\Fonts).

If you want a frame around the text as well, again do an online search for something like 'silent movie title frames' or similar - there'll be lots of hits but the frames are usually square. Otherwise, use an image editor to create your own frame.

Re the time stamp, hopefully it's near a corner so that the image can be reframed (zoomed in or cropped) so as to move the time stamp out of frame. My projects are mostly down in C/Scope aspect ratio (1:2.35 or 1:2.40) so it has been relatively easy to avoid the time stamp on the couple of occasions that I've forgotten to tourn off the time stamp on my phone. Assuming that there's movement occurring behind the time stamp, there's not much hope of getting rid of it or obscuring it without it being obvious. The time stamp could be hidden by some sort of image like a company logo or titling.

Vegas Pro has excellent CC gui features; although I haven't seen premade templates, you can certainly make your own custom layout and save it as a preset.

You didn't write what type of audio is missing, but silent's used captions between shots and were mostly B/W and vignette

I guess that the movie can be turned into B&W and then add AI Colorization if the OP has VP20 onward...
