Silly problem/silly resolution

Was on a last second "please come shoot this" thing this morning. My friend assured me I didn't need anything but my camera. I should have known better.
We were out in the middle of next to nowhere, and no stores around, and of course, what do I need? Light. The shot he need to document a historical location was backed by the sun, albeit very low to the south. Back lit and DV don't go together so well no matter what. So, got into the car emergency kit where there was a 10 watt emergency light, that plugs into the cigarette lighter or my Bescor battery belt. Bounced it off of the windshield reflector that we carry for those hot summer days. Worked like a charm. $5.00 light, I was good to go. Funny how dumb little stuff works so well.

Hi Spot,

Silly question...

How come you happened to have the battery belt (which looks like a very neat accessory BTW) with you :o)

Cuz it always is in the flight case with my XL1. I wore my battery compartment out long ago on that camcorder, so I've got an adapter more or less permanently in the cam, that plugs into the Bescor belt.

Wow, I am amazed to read you are still using an XL1. Our 18X lens developed sticky points on the zoom a couple of years ago so all we mostly use the WA 3X. I'd sell the thing but after looking at eBay prices for the veneralbe XL1 original, I think I'll hang on to it as a curiosity. It was good enough a few eyars ago but competition up here is fierce so we had to go to a DSR 500 with a broadcast lens. Still, the XL1 was okay. If you ever want an XL1 with all the accessories, a jib and Portabrace bag plus a dozen or so Tiffen 72mm filters email me at psburn@shaw.ca

We've got 3 XL's, 1 broadcast lens, and 2 3X lenses. The XL is great if you don't use the stock lens. Until the Z1U comes out, the XL is our "workhorse" for many different things.

Hi Spot

I was delighted to hear you are an XL1 user. You really made my day.

I used my XL1 today, to record a children's Xmas concert (82 young children at an Aged Care Home, here in Australia performing to elderly residents) , which was a very emotional and rewarding experience for me.

I don't have any other lenses, other than the standard XL1, but am still very pleased with the results for the type of work that I do.

In my opinion, Canon XL1+ Vegas 5.0+DVD Architect = Great results.
