Silly question? getting rid of silence

I know this sound simple but I am just new to VV4. I made my first 5 min video and started playing with editing it. In the beginning of my video I decided to remove the first few clips but this left me with an empty silence in the beginning of the timeline. I turned off the "loop' in the video properties but I am still unable to have my newly cut project snap to the zero point in the time line. Every time I start the project it starts at time zero with the silence still present. How do I remove this "dead area"?

I use vegas 3, but from what I hear this should be the same. If I understand you right, you have a space on the left of your timeline where you deleted some clips and now there is nothing there. If that's the case, what you need to do is move your entire project as one piece all the way to the left of the timeline, or in other words, to the 0 second mark. To do this without screwing up your project, go to edit, select all so that the entire project in all tracks is highlighted. Now, using the regular edit tool, click and hold the left mouse button on any of the clips in your project, being careful not to click one of the buttons such as video effects, pan/crop, etc, and drag the project all the way to the left. That should do it.

Even easier yet, highlight the empty area at the beginning of the timeline by double-clicking in it, then press the Delete key.

Just to clarify: For that to work Auto Ripple needs to be enabled (Ctrl+L).

Perfect. They all work. Thanks!
