Simple Manual Slide Show ?

SWS wrote on 4/16/2008, 4:29 PM
I think this is a simple question...I want to manually advance my slides (picture compilation) by pushing the "Next Chapter" button. Is that possible in 4.5? I don't want to have a preset time length.
thanks!

This might help - You could make your movie with pictures lasting, say, 10 seconds each. Then in DVDA you could put chapter markers between the pictures to jump to the next one, and hitting Pause to stop on a picture for a longer period.

Thanks for the info. That seems to be a somewhat useable work around.

... I find if I run the slideshow I can use the "Next" button to jump to the next slide, of course the show is in the run mode, but if I "Pause" a running slide show I cannot hit the "Next" button to resume playing the show, (it's unavailable). I have to hit "Play" to restart the show then be ready to hit "Pause" to stop and hold a slide. It gets a bit cumbersome with the buttons and all. I wish there was a simple way just to keep a slide holding till I hit "Next".
Thanks

A picture compilation in DVDA is just a movie made from your pictures. So, yeah, each picture (a chapter within the movie) is going to play for a specified amount of time. Sorry, no way to make one of them hold indefinitely.

One solution would be to ask yourself what's the longest amount of time I would likely need this slide up. However long that is, that's how long you set the duration. In the even that the presenter talks for too long, and the "slide" advances too soon, they can hit the Previous Chapter button to go back. (I know, not a perfect solution. But it's there.)

Other solution would be to skip the picture compilation route and insert a bunch of submenus or menu pages, use each picture as a menu background, and set each menu to loop. Each menu will have a link the next and previous menus (aka, slide). You might need to set the "next" button as the default, but you can then just hit the Enter button on your remove to advance. If you don't want the buttons visible, drag them outside the safe areas or remove the thumbnail associated with them. (In the case of the latter, you'll probably want to alter the color set, too, so the highlight doesn't show up.) This method, granted, will get tedious to build if you have a lot of pictures to add since it's not quite the "drag, drop, done" method that a picture compilation is.

Thanks Rob. That's pretty much what I thought I might have to do. You clarified it. I think it would be a good option but I guess we can always figure a work around.

Thanks!

I'm also having trouble finding a solution to this problem. All the slideshow software I see wants to set a specific time for each image. Here is the solution I did last night for a client.

Using Sony DVD Architect 4.5
File; new menu based
right click the menu1 image that loads in the preview screen
set background media to your desired image
right click menu1 folder; insert menu page
repeat those steps for your images
links are automatically added
to get rid of the arrows
click on them to get the button properties
set media to none; highlight set to mask overlay
this will get rid of the arrow image from overlapping your picture and remove the highlighting.

I did this for a couple dozen images and worked great, image stayed on screen indefinately until hitting the |<< or >>| previous or next buttons, top menu button brought it back to the start.

This is very tedious though, there must be a better way. It was a rush to do this on certain equipment, but it did work. Hopefully that might be helpful, looks like someone else had the same suggestion too.

Why not make each slide a menu and have next and back buttons they will stay as long as you like then, have a button in the middle to go back to the main menu, have no text so the items are invisible.

edit just read the above and basically the same idea I had.... look before you leap
