Simple pan/crop question

I am using Vegas 4.0 to make slide shows from stills.

I am using the pan/crop tool to zoom in or pan a photo. I know how to use keyframes to set the start and end points of my pan or zoom. My problem is that the motion from the first point to the last point isn't always a straight line - sometimes the motion appears to curve a bit.

I just want a straight motion. When I am working in the pan/crop tool, I see this line with a circle at one end and a caret at the other end. The length and shape of this line appears to dictate this extra motion that I see. How can I get rid of this motion setting line, and how can I set things so that the default is that this line never appears? In other words, what can I do so that this line feature is not present.

I learned Vegas on the MovieStudio version, which does not include this feature - it does a simple straight motion.

Click on each keyframe and set the smoothness to 0.000.

Sadly, there is no way to set this as the default. However, if you remember to set it on the initial keyframe the first time you open up Pan/Crop on a picture, it should be retained for the additional keyframes you add.

You can try downloading JohnnyRoy's Unsmooth Keyframes script. Just select the events you want to unsmooth and run the script.
The script was written for Vegas 5 but should (hopefully) work with Vegas 4.
And since you're using Vegas 4, you'll have to change the line that says
import Sony.Vegas; to import SonicFoundry.Vegas;.
Open the script with Notepad, make the change and save it.

Hmm ... that appears to be true, although interestingly, you can set the TRACK smoothness default using the hidden internal preferences ... I just checked and this doesn't affect the pan/crop smoothness default. Close, but no cigar.
