No difference between the academic version and the "full" version. Academic versions are aggressively priced to introduce students to the power of Vegas. Once you learn Vegas, you're hooked...that's the idea. :-)
Welcome to Vegas!

Only difference is that you are usually limited in usage----not for money.

Good point, Rex, the academic version is for non-commercial use. I forgot.

OK Thanks for the heads up! Should I upgrade or is that possible?
I do not wish to break the law. I am so excited about this most powerful set of tools!
Best Wishes,
Marty

Marty, it's not a "law" but rather part of your End User License Agreement. (EULA) I'm not sure what's in the Academic EULA, I'd recommend calling Sony Customer Service on Monday. I looked around a little on the site, but couldn't find specific information. Maybe I didn't look deeply enough.

Womderful information! I will call Ms. Carlson with Sony and ask for the price of an upgrade. You have been most generous with your time and I thank you from the bottom of my heart. I am wheelchair bound and Vegas has put a smile on my face, I purchaced a Sony HVR-Z1U and a Cineform product to import the data into the PC *Sony has the CineForm proced for 149.99. I also ordered an extra battery and a rain jacket for the camera. I found some wireless Shure for 500.00 per pack..The Carl Zuiess Lens that comes with is super quality. I am so impressed how very quicklu think change each year,
Thanbk you again for the great information.
Thanks,
Marty

Hello
I called Sony MS today and spoke with Ted, who explained the following.
1. Yes the Edu Edition is exactly the same product.
2. The Edu Edition license may be used commercially.

I asked him to make sure and he came back with the same information.
So I called my guy at Sony Corp. Sales and explained my situation to him, he said he would write me a letter saying I may use Vegas 5.x commercially.

Hmm, I still think you guy's are right! I does not make sense unless they are going to gag me on a upcomming upgrade...

Thank again,
Marty
