I've searched for the words "DVD - minus R" and couldn't find anything conclusive. The thing is: I can't burn any DVD-R around here. Don't know if it's my LG drive or DVDA 2.0 itself. Anybody, please?
Thanks in advance.
I have an LG and couldn't burn with DVDA. Couldn't burn with Nero, either, until I started using Memorex blanks (versus the "Pine" brand I was using before).
I've stuck with Nero for burning, but like DVDA for authoring. It seems experimentation is still needed in the DVD world!
Thanks to all who took time to respond. That's the fourth time I try to burn a DVD - R media and unfortunately the result is always the same = error; disc has data but cannot be played.
Maybe the problem is with my LG drive or the media (I've tried Smartbuy and a cheap one called IOTA) once ScottW has reported he burns DVD - R media all the time with DVDA. Next time I wont try Nero, but an applc I have here to backup my own non copyrighted media, named Clone DVD. I'll post a message back as soon as possible.
Thanks again ;)
PS: JUST IN TIME - MY DVD DRIVE IS AN LG SINGLE LAYER GSA-4081B AND "IT DOES SUPPORT DVD-R MEDIA".
I also had problems with LG 4081 and DVDA, only about 40% success rate, tried using different brands to no avail.
Switched to TMP DVD author and have not had a failure since.
I still use DVDA to author the DVD then save it to HDD, Then use TMP to burn the DVD. Works great. http://www.pegasys-inc.com/
If you are planning to add extra folders to your discs, I'd suggest you follow johnmeyer's recommendations and proceedure. I've tried a number of utilities and Nero is the only that I know of that has gotten it right.
Nero is also very fast. Nero 5.5.10.56 burned the 4x media at 4x, instead of falling all the way back to 1x like the other utilities.
Thanks mrcreosote, for letting us know that I am not the only one ;) and that there may be an "issue" involving DVDA and the LG drive. Thanks also to glenl, for the advices. After authoring with DVDA, I'll try TMPGENC DVD author and Nero just to to burn my minus media (despite the fact I rarely use this kind of media - I do prefer DVD + PLUS R).
;)
I've just burned a DVD - (minus) R media with Clone DVD. The whole thing was previously prepared with DVDA2.0. Result = menus don't work; the only one way to open the videos is pressing "next" on the DVD player remote control. Since some users have reported they have no problems at all burning DVD-R with DVDA2.0, I guess the problem is my LG drive.
Your prime suspect should be the media. The difference between good and bad blancs is great, and so is the difference between various burmers' ability to work with certain media brands.

I have an LG GSA 4040B Multi Recorder drive that DVDA2 refuses to fully burn. It partially burns but fails to finalize the disk.
Here's what I do:
After authoring, press the "Prepare DVD" button and make a new folder in your data drive with the title "<project name> TS files".
Now let DVDA2 render/prep and put the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders in that TS folder.
When completed, I open Sonic RecordNow burning software (it came with my IBM IntelliStation M Pro machine) and make a normal Data Disk. Inside the software is an Options button. Under the "Advanced" tab is a "Write-Once DVD Compatibility" checkbox that says "I only need to use discs for one recording. (Your will not be able to add data in the future, but more DVD drives will be able to read the disc.)" This button forces the drive to finalize the disk and make it compatible with standard desktop DVD players.
I drag only the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders to the RecordNow software and burn normally.
I was having the same problem with my Plextor PX-708UF drive. I downloaded and installed the DVDA 2.0a update from the support link. and now it burns DVD-r.
