Simple V8 Question - I hope

Jim H wrote on 2/6/2009, 11:13 AM
Just upgraded to V8. I can't remember how I got my tracks docker on top and my trimmer/project media/transitions/etc and mixer on the bottom. I detached my mixer and can't figure out how to get it reattached. I'm thinking I struggled with this last time I did a full install... but maybe V8's dockable feature changed something?

Thanks.

That was simple.... just like I thought. Thanks.

OK, so here's another one... In V8 I find that when I preview a clip from explorer, I'm only getting audio. The clips play fine on the timeline. Anyone experience this?

By preview do you mean the right-click option to play media within the explorer tab of Sony Vegas? If so, I think the video plays the Video Preview tab.

Jim, from the Pro 8 readme:

When the Show Video Monitor button in the Trimmer window is selected, video that you preview from the Vegas Explorer and Media Manager windows is played back in the Trimmer. Because the Trimmer is placed in the same window dock as the Explorer and Media Manager, you will not see your video preview. To preview Explorer and Media Manager video, you can drag the Trimmer to a new dock group, or you can turn off the Show Video Monitor button to preview in the Video Preview window.

That's the answer Mike. Thanks.
Now if I knew what I'm missing by turning off the "Show Video Monitor" I'd feel better about the whole thing.

Jim, turning it off turns things back to how they've always been - the Timeline and the Trimmer share the main Video Preview, depending on which has focus.

If the new version had defaulted to this arrangement, and let those who want the Trimmer to have its own preview turn the new feature ON, it would have avoided about 3 dozen enquiries in this forum alone!

I'd be interested to hear how many are using the new feature. I'm sure it's popular with those used to a separate source window.

To get the ball rolling, I don't, so that's
