Simulating a high-contrast effect

I am not sure if this belongs in off-topic, but ...

I used to shoot quite a bit of landscape photography a few years back. There were a few looks I enjoyed using: high-contrast clarity, tonemapped HDR 8-bit, and a light bit of detail enhancement via Lucis. I am looking around for video editing software that can emulate these effects, working with the images that have a similar look.

I am a novice, but if you know of a way to emulate this (without exporting tens-of-thousands of frames into still images) I would love to know what technique you use for this.

post an example of the sort of look you're after... give us all a better idea.

I would like to see what you had in mind. I don't know Lucis. One of the high Contrast fx much loved at present is the DRAGAN effect. Is that close? I can get valuable Grading results using many of the existing VP tools (Compositing Dodge, Screen etc) but also use ColourFast ( masking based on high/mids/shadows and skin masking) and Magic Bullet Looks (applications of post shoot ND, Skin texture manipulation and much more) NewBlueStylsers. Exploring and getting into the Layer Compositing Sets using Parent and Child Compositing Sets can provide much of the treatments available in stills Graphics packages.

My experience is that there is much available to us to squeeze-out more narrative from our shooting using the tools already in our hands.

However, casting a long shadow over all of this is, why try and replicate that which is meant and meant for stills would or would work or add in a narrative which is a fundamentally over a Still image? Would seeing the DRAGAN Fx coming to life being valuable or not?

Should this be posted in this or the Main Forum? I'd say in the Main Vegas Forum. You betcha!
