........is there anything out there that is a good substitute? Or, will it be coming out soon for Vegas? (I think I saw that somewhere) Thanks very much, Roger
It's been commented that it's coming soon for a few months now, but there used to be a contact info post for someone that I you could call directly to ask and put a little pressure on, I can't find that page anymore.
Celluloid does a good job of using Vegas plugs to emulate popular film looks but to my eye there is a look that I can achieve with MB that I can't seem to get with Vegas alone, and a script that can help you make/emulate the look of a several hundred dollar filter plug-in for just under $125 with more looks presets than the $400 MB plug-in. It's well worth it in my mind, you could also look into using the (much slower to render than the MB2 GPU accelerated plug but able to achieve a slightly closer to MB look) Velvet matter plug-ins combined with the Celluoid script and reelpaks can get you extremely close if not maybe even a little better (IMO). Something to think about because then you would also have the great velvet matter plugs which in my opinion are MUCH better than what you can create with Vegas alone in terms of Light rays etc...).
"Ditto on Celluloid. Not only can you not beat it for the price, but as was stated earlier, the render times are MUCH, MUCH faster."
Strictly in the interest of accuracy, there are 2 different versions of MB Editors that work with vegas. MB 1 Editors was EXTREMELY Slow (and garnered the name Magic Slug justifiably), MB2 Editors utilized GPU acceleration and works pretty quickly. Though I've not had a render off between MB2 and Celluloid, MB1 and Celluloid render times were DRASTICALLY different.
I have been beta testing the new MB for Vegas and it is tremendous. An incrdible amount of options and control for grading and much more efficient for my mindset. I have heard other people going back to the old version because they don't get the new interface. For me it is very intuitive and it has cut my grading times down by at least half while greatly increasing the toolset available.
Do not forget, that the VASST Celluloid that is very well respected is ONLY a Vegas script. This means it contains nothing that you can not do yourself within Vegas using Color Curves, Saturation, Glow, motion blur etc. So if for economic reasons or logistics you can not get a third party plug-in you still have options. Celluloid is only $24.99 so it is a deal if you want it.
The RedGiant website is now listing Magic Bullet Looks as being compatible with Vegas Pro 8.
Can't find an update to download at present on the site so i lodged a support ticket with them.
Looking forward to having it in Vegas as I love it in FCP and Motion.
Navigating the Red Giant site painfully s... l... o... w. Is that in keeping with the painfully slow render times I've heard about when using Red Giant products?
