Single color effect?

Someone help my memory, how do you make a single color in a video and the rest in B&W?

Like you have a scene with a red rose and you want the rose to be in color and the rest B&W?

Edit: found it on Edward's JetDV site:
(posted to soon after few bad googles..)

1. Add the clip to a single track
2. Add the secondary color corrector to the clip
3. Click on the “Select Effect Range” eyedropper
and pick the color to keep.
4. Click on “Invert Mask”
5. Click on “Mask” and use the “Limit” tools to
adjust the mask to the correct area.
6. uncheck “Mask”
7. In the top section, change “Saturation” to 0.

Hello Kevin,
here is a short video on how to do what you've stated...

here

fairly simple and straightforward - add secondary color corrector; select the color you want to highlight; adjust the filters and tweaks to the desired look and feel; and enjoy your video ...

Thanks for the video tutorial link Earl, appreciate it.

One thing though, when selecting the color range with the dropper, it doesn't appear to select the range if you click and drag as how it shows in the video. Seems to work OK anyway, but maybe it just doesn't give you the visual indicator that it's selecting the range.

The part I'm talking about is at the 1:38 minute mark in the video.

With Vista and Win7 there was a change in the way Windows handles the selection. The box is no longer drawn.

I would also add a light chroma blur before the secondary color corrector to improve the smoothness of the mask.

Hey Kevin,
(it's always gonna be something with you, isn't it? ... just kidding - I haven't seen you in a while to poke in the ribs, so I'm doing it here... grin)
well he also said to select a range if there is variation in the saturation and shadows in the area... he then selected a piece of the carpet ... I did notice the selection didn't have any marching ants to identify it; I thought he was hovering over the spots he would select if he wanted to and he just never clicked and dragged - he just dragged.

For the full color shot with good consistency and saturation, he didn't need to draw an outline.

Keith's answer above solved the mystery for me...

I knew there were some video tutorials around. Glad this one helped.

Until that time... Earl J.
