skipping problem

well i had a problem in win2k sp3 with vv4 not loading

so i stuck another hard drive in there that i had laying around

and i formatted it and put 98se on it

just the bare minimums nothing fancy just what i needed

when i preview a session it will play for a bit then at some random time it will begin to skip like a bad scratch in a cd

and then jump ahead a few seconds and the sound and video are now out of sync

you can pause and then unpause and the sound will be synced back up

but still this problem is quite annoying and happens every few seconds in the cutter

Sounds to me like your system's loading up, running out of resources or not reading/writing fast enough to disk - stuff stalls while it waits for whatever to catch up - stopping the playback gives it a chance to do just that.

If the video will play fine in wmplayer or similar, then you might have Vegas trying to do too much to your video, as in too many effects, color monitors on etc... If the video won't play outside Vegas, then for whatever reason the system's not up to what you're asking it to do. Except for the slower drive, you should be able to do pretty much anything as long as the video bit rate isn't way up there.

As a longshot, might also want to use the windows drivers instead of ASIO inside Vegas with the sound card in win98.

i am not putting any effects on the video and the audio just has a volume envelope on it

the disk that has the video on it is the raid drive which read write around 40-50 mbps

how do you switch the drivers?

and i will check if it runs outside vegas but im pretty sure it will
