The correct size for your images is 655x480 if you want them to fill the
frame. However, you can use any size image, and as long as you do not
check "Stretch video to fit output frame" when you render, the images
won't be distorted. You'll just have extra black space above and below
for wider images or on the left and right for taller images.

When creating still images for use use in a video project, multiply the target format's width x the target format's pixel aspect ratio.

Example: For NTSC DV

720 (frame width) x .9091 (pixel aspect ratio)= 655

So, for NTSC DV output, make the still images 655 x 480 and you'll be set.
