slideshow cuts parts of slides

I have been working on a slideshow presentation and noticed after rendering to mpeg2 and playing the DVD back on a standard TV that the pictures are chopped off. I am sure this is a render setting that can be rectified easily. I want to make sure the whole picture is displayed. For the render setting I used 720x480 NTSC DVD. These are scanned 35 mm slides being used in the show. Is it better to use 352x480 as the setting? or is it in the aspect ratio?

Display the safe areas in the preview window. Anything in those areas SHOULD show in any SD/HD TV. *SHOULD*. If needed scale via pan/crop to adjust (or track motion).

I have the safe area shown and it shows all of the pictures. it's the final DVD rendering that is chopping off the pictures all around.

The rendering process won't do anything to your pictures.
This problem is caused by your TV set and is a well-known issue.
Search this site for overscan.

Have a look at Wikipedia's explanation of overscan.
