slideshow pics too large for TV screen

coronamc wrote on 4/12/2005, 12:43 PM
This is probably a very basic question, but I can't seem to get my slideshow to fit my TV screen correctly. I have captions at the bottoms of some pictures that keep getting cut off. It is always a problem with the height. Is this just a question of monitor size variance, or is there something I can do to fix this?

Thanks in advance!

Are you keeping all of your media - stills and captions within the 'safe' areas?

You will find this option under 'View - Workspace Overlays'. Make sure that both 'Action Safe Area' and Title 'Safe Area' are turned on - you will see the dotted lines inside the work area on your screen.

Bear in mind that different TV's will mask off varying amounts of the screen, but I think that DVDA assumes a 'worst case' scenario.

If you keep all of your content inside the inermost set of lines you should be OK.

This is why the pictures in most DVD "slideshows" are matted -- because the area of the media that's actually seen on screen varies from television to television. If you want the viewer to see the whole picture, matte it. If you have captions, make sure they're within the title safe area (the inner dotted line).

What I've done is used sub-titles for my captions and force the menu choice to activate the subtitles.

Thanks everyone - I didn't know about the workspace option. I will try to activiate this and adjust accordingly.

Appreciate the input!

coronamc, the most flexible way is to just build the program in Vegas (taking into account the Safe Area) which will also allow Ken Burns' style movements. Render that to an MPEG2 file and then build your DVD from that.
